Project Overview

We designed, engineered, manufactured, and installed a durable, all-composite circular observation deck at the Ryan Resilience Lab in Norfolk, VA—an innovative public hub advancing education, sustainability, and coastal resilience.

Project Objectives

  • Create an architecturally distinctive platform that allows visitors to engage directly with the marshland and Knitting Mill Creek.
  • Use sustainable, long-lasting materials that reflect and reinforce the Lab’s mission of environmental responsibility and flood adaptation.
  • Deliver a virtually maintenance-free structure that serves as a public amenity, educational tool, and symbol of resilient design.

The Final Result

The finished observation deck is a stunning, enduring feature of the Ryan Resilience Lab—inviting the public into nature, sparking environmental awareness, and standing as a lasting testament to sustainable coastal development.
